So you want to install custom firmware onto your PSP with a Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick but you’re not sure if your PSP is compatible.
This guide will help you find out if your PSP will work with the Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick kit we offer.
There are a few things about your PSP which you have to find out first.
What type of PSP do you have? To be more exact, which model do you have? There are 3 PSP models available currently.
- PSP-1000(FAT/PHAT/CLASSIC) – This is the First PSP ever released and if you have this you’re in luck! ALL PSP-1000s can support the Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick regardless of firmware version or motherboard.
- PSP-2000(slim and lite) – The 2nd type of PSP ever released. This PSP is more tricky to find out if it is compatible or not. If you have this PSP please move on to the next section on how to determine which motherboard you have.
- PSP-3000(brite) – The latest PSP available in the market. Sadly all PSP-3000s cannot support the Pandora battery and magic memory stick. The only solution for this is to be patient and wait for a new version which is compatible to be released.
So is my PSP-2000 compatible or not?
The PSP-2000 units come with many different motherboards. You can divide the PSP-2000 units into 3 main groups. OLD, NEW and REALLY NEW. The main problem with this model is that the new units come with motherboards that do not work with the Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick. The only motherboard which is unhackable is the TA88 v3 motherboard. These motherboards are only found in the NEW PSPs. ANY other motherboard model your PSP runs will work fine with the Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick and these motherboards can be found in the OLD and REALLY NEW PSPs.
So how can I tell if my PSP has a TA 88 v3 motherboard?
There is no definitive guide as to how but there are many signs on your PSP which you can use to find out. These signs have been outlined below to help you determine what motherboard you have.
1. What firmware did my PSP come with? This is the firmware version of your PSP out of the box when you first got it.
This is because the firmware is an indicator of what motherboard you have. The table below illustrates the corresponding firmware version with motherboard model your PSP has. If your PSP is compatible with the Pandora Battery & Magic memory stick from the table below, you can go ahead and make an order.
| PSP Firmware Version |
Motherboard model |

| 3.60 Official Firmware |
TA-085v1 |
YES |
| 3.71 Official Firmware |
TA-088v1

| 3.72 Official Firmware |
TA-085v2

| 3.80 Official Firmware |

| 4.05 Official Firmware |
TA-088v3 or TA-090v1 |
MAYBE |
If you have determined from the table above that your PSP maybe compatible, please go to the next section to find out which motherboard exactly your PSP has.
2. What is your PSP’s unit Identifier Letter? (This is a single alphabet on the label of your PSP box, usually the 3rd line from the top on the right side)
In the image below, there are 3 lines of text visible on the right.
PSP-2000 CW
100v
G
The “G” letter is the unit Identifier.
(No Letter) = TA-085v1
A = TA-088v1
C = TA-085v2
E = TA-085v2 or TA-088v1
F = TA-088v1 or TA-088v2
G = TA-088v1 or TA-088v2 or TA-088v3
J = TA-090v1
If the letter on your label is a “G” there is a small chance your PSP carries the TA 88 v3 motherboard and that it cannot be hacked.
3. What is your PSP’s date code?
This code can be found on the label in the battery bay of your PSP.
The table below indicates whether your PSP can support the Pandora Battery & Magic memory stick or not based on the Date Code you have.
| Date Code |
Compatible? |
| 7C |
YES |
| 7D |
YES |
| 7E |
YES |
| 7F |
YES |
| 8A |
YES |
| 8B |

| 8C |
MAYBE |
| 8D |
NO |
The use of the Date Code is not a sure indicator and is not 100% confirmed yet but it is useful as a rough guide.
Table below summarises the motherboard model codes and whether or not they are compatible with the pandora battery and magic memory stick.

Hopefully you will be able to use this guide as a rough indicator on whether your PSP can support the Pandora battery & Magic memory stick or not. However, much of the information is still incomplete and unconfirmed. Therefore, there is not sure way of telling if your PSP can work or not. The best way is to try a Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick on your PSP and if it works it works! If you do order a Pandora Battery and Magic memory stick but find out upon trying it on your PSP that it is not compatible. You can simply return it to us for a refund.
